Mission Statement
Kidspire Kenya works to ensure that children in pastoralist communities of Northern Kenya can access quality education. We do this by establishing schools featuring modern and well equipped classrooms, taught by excellent teachers, who facilitate a child-centered approach to learning.
Program Priorities
Because children in pastoralist communities lack access to quality education, Kidspire Kenya's program priorities in Northern Kenya focus on getting kids into school and keeping them in school through graduation.
In pastoralist communities where each day can be a fight for survival, it is not an automatic priority for parents to send their children to school. Our team regularly visits homes and advocates for the importance and value of education.
Engaged learners become confident learners. We prioritize a student-centered approach to learning and train our teachers to cultivate interactive and collaborative classrooms.
Hungry students are distracted from learning. We invest in nutritious balanced meals, with many of the ingredients grown onsite in our organic vegetable garden.
Getting kids into school is just the first step. Keeping them in school requires committed parents. We continually engage the parents of our learners, making them a core part of the program.
52% of our students are girls. In a region where boys generally receive more opportunities than girls, we will continually advocate for girls to receive the education they deserve.
Classrooms don't need to be expensive, but we believe they should be welcoming, designed for collaboration and equipped with locally available materials that enhance learning.

MEET BRIAN
When we first met Brian he was responsible for grazing his family’s herd of goats.
All day, he would endure the hot sun to make sure he was guiding the goats to places where they could access the food and water they needed for survival. In this region of Kenya, where the local people make their living trading livestock, it is common for children to miss out on school.

Advocate and delivery quality education within pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya.
Over the years, we have learned how important it is to ensure our educational programs help children build foundational literacy. This is especially true in communities where as many as 90% of adults lack basic literacy, and school enrollment levels for children are often 10% or lower.
We are seeing steady progress towards these objectives. Children are being enrolled in school. Parents are showing their support for education. And more than 90% of our students are scoring at or above their age appropriate literacy level within the competency-based education system.
